What is Code the Change

About Us

We are the Code the Change Chapter at Harvey Mudd College, a STEM-focused liberal arts college located in Claremont, California. We pair student developers with non-profits who need technological solutions but don't have the time, budget, or in-house engineering team to build them. Over a semester or summer, our student teams design and build tools — from computer vision models to data pipelines to full web apps — tailored to each partner's needs, at no cost to them. Non-profits get real software they can use, and students get to apply what they're learning to problems that matter.

Current Projects

American Red Cross International Service Department

We're building a computer vision pipeline to classify over 300,000 street-level images provided by the NGO across regions in Indonesia, identifying buildings and vulnerabilities, and fine-tuning the model through uncertainty-guided adaptation and benchmarking.

California Botanic Garden (CalBG)

For CalBG, we're creating an interactive map of the garden grounds, letting park-goers view information about each plant they encounter through a more personalized, intuitive experience.

Alliance Bioversity-CIAT

We're building a Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) pipeline to automate classification and verification of animal feed and crop yield research syntheses from the NGO's large-scale dataset, working closely with their team to develop a robust workflow.

Children’s Foundation of America

We’re developing an online portal to help the Foundation track applications and manage documents for its scholarship program.
